"The God of Small Things" is a Booker Prize winner written by Indian writer, Arundhati Roy. It tells the story of two twins, Rahel and Estha. It describes how their relationship with each other grows and changes throughout their life due to experiences and challenges they face. The story is told in no one particular characters point of view, but rather shows the thoughts and opinions of several different people. One thing that is interesting about the structure of this book, is that the story is told in a series of flash-forwards and flashbacks instead of displaying events in chronological order. The story contains several motifs, or themes that are repeated throughout the work. Some of this include the idea of wrongly placed guilt and blame, fear, family bonds, love and society and class. If you want to know more about this award-winning book, check out our blog where you can find some important quotes from the story, artwork and photographs depicting important parts of the book, and a jeopardy game that reviews the book.
